About Motherhood Matters
Motherhood Matters is the collaborative partnership of Susan McLoone and Sara Rausch created to offer one place for women to turn to for education, support and resources.. It is our goal to create a community of women, for women through the many stages of their lives. At Motherhood Matters, you will find a variety of resources and services, along with an extensive referral network that nurture a woman’s most authentic self through health and wellness.
To inform and empower women from preconception, prenatal, postpartum and beyond, through a variety of classes, services and meetups. We believe knowledge is power, movement is vital to life and a compassionate community is the cornerstone.
Chiropractors strive to optimize health using a hands-on, non-invasive approach that does not utilize medicine or surgery. Although we may use a variety of treatment approaches, we primarily perform adjustments to the spine or other parts of the body with the goal of correcting alignment, alleviating pain, improving function and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Companion. Coach. Advocate. Friend. As a birth doula, the most important job is to empower a birthing woman. As a non-medical role on your birth team, doulas provide continuous informational, emotional and physical support before, during and after childbirth. Birth doulas meet with expecting couples during the prenatal period, attend the birth and follow up in the postpartum period as well.
Spinning Babies classes and services show expecting moms and birth partners what to do to experience an easier birth with a practical and detailed preparation to help baby find an ideal position in mom’s body. Learn what to do to ease a long labor or the best movements for stalls in labor. If practiced daily, an easier labor and birth are likely. We offer one-on-one services along with small class settings.
Movement is vital to life! Learn to move in YOUR body to enhance YOUR life. This class is designed to teach you the fundamentals of movement in a yoga flow sequence. We will slow things down, discuss anatomy and hold postures to get you to truly experience the sensations of the asanas. This class is appropriate for ALL ages, genders, levels of yoga experience.
Acupuncture addresses the balancing of meridians, which are energy (qi/chi) channels that run throughout the body, similar to blood vessels. Stimulating specific points along these meridians can help to balance energy and alleviate many symptoms and conditions within the body. These points can be stimulated using needles, electrical current, pressure and heat (moxa).
Our prenatal yoga program is specifically designed to get moms’ bodies and minds ready for birth. We use proven techniques like birth affirmations, breath work, imagery and movements to reduce discomforts of pregnancy and facilitate ease of birth. Our classes focus on building a community of support for moms through all stages of pregnancy and the fourth trimester.
Toddler and Me Yoga
Our Toddler and Me yoga classes are a great way to connect with young children through movement, songs and play. Caregivers will learn tips and tricks to incorporate yoga and movement into a child’s day, while inspiring imagination and creativity in toddlers! Classes provide a positive shared routine to carry caregivers through challenging times such as tantrums and boundary testing.
Prenatal/postpartum chiropractors use many traditional chiropractic techniques as well as Webster’s Technique, which addresses balance in the bony structure and soft tissues of the pelvis. We find that if mom’s body is in optimal alignment with ideal tissue tone, she may experience more comfort through pregnancy, an easier/shorter labor and delivery, and a quicker, more comfortable recovery
Mothering the new mother. Postpartum doulas empower and support new mothers and their families so that they feel confident during this new season of life. We provide physical, emotional and information support during the fourth trimester and beyond. Postpartum doulas can provide help with anything from holding baby while mom showers to assisting with family adjustment to a new baby.
BIRTHFIT Davenport is part of a large movement that is quickly growing through the world! BIRTHFIT is about women taking charge of their bodies and decisions before, during and after the Motherhood Transition. We utilize in-person classes to facilitate learning, growth, support and community. We utilize four pillars – fitness, nutrition, mindset and connection – to cultivate the most ideal motherhood transition.
This class is designed to safely teach you the fundamentals of stability, strength and conditioning. We will learn how to breathe correctly, connect with the core and pelvic floor, stabilize the spine appropriately, and move functionally, with or without weights. We may utilize various equipment such as barbells, kettlebells, rings, bands, boxes, etc. This class is great for ALL ages, genders and levels!!
Infrared saunas use a special light frequency (infrared) to heat the body without heating the surrounding air. While using the sauna, the room does not actually get heated although the body perceives infrared waves as heat so most people will end up sweating quite a bit. Infrared saunas can aid in weight loss, pain and stress reduction, detoxification, and improved mood and circulation.
Our gentle yoga program is specifically designed to include breathing, gentle flowing movements and discussions related to taking yoga from the mat into the world. We use breath and asana to connect with our bodies physically, emotionally and spiritually. Our classes focus on building a community of support through all stages of life, including pregnancy and the fourth trimester.
Baby and Me Yoga
Our Baby and Me yoga classes are offered for moms (or a caregiver) and their non-mobile babies. Classes include specialized yoga poses to help stretch out stiff areas developed while caring for your baby and to boost baby’s physical strength and improve sleep and digestion. Classes may also incorporate various topics such as aromatherapy, sound healing and mama tribe building.
Pediatric chiropractors have additional training in topics specific to babies, children and teens. They also learn additional technique considerations for working with pediatric patients. The goal of pediatric chiropractic care is to facilitate healthy development, as well as aid in the treatment of various conditions such as nursing difficulties, colic, ear infections, constipation, reflux, etc.
International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are the best source of evidenced-based breastfeeding information. They offer assistance that empowers moms to have a satisfying breastfeeding experience. An IBCLC can equip women with the tools and knowledge to get off to the best breastfeeding start as well as provide the needed support and encouragement to ensure long-term success.
We utilize a technique called DNS which is based in developmental kinesiology. This technique recognizes that we learn predictable movement patterns and when people begin to deviate from these innate patterns, they develop dysfunctions that can result in pain and tension. DNS strives to return people to their innate patterns in order to alleviate various acute or chronic symptoms.
Through the use of symptom surveys, extensive history, physical exam and specific blood, saliva, hair, urine or stool analyses we can determine the root cause of many ailments. Once we get a complete picture of a patient’s health status, we can begin using food, supplements and herbs to reduce medications and begin healing from things like disease and hormone imbalance.
Hot Bamboo Massage
Massage therapy utilizing hot bamboo is an innovative way to provide a smooth, non-invasive approach to deep tissue quality. Heated bamboo is used to roll and knead the muscles to create an overall sensation of relaxation and well-being. Bamboo massage is also used as a powerful preventative therapy against modern-day stress and to aid in relief from many physical and emotional problems.
Ashtanga is a system of yoga that consists of a set series of postures that are held for a specific number of breaths. The combination of breath, focused attention and asana creates the perfect environment for movement meditation. Students are encouraged to memorize the sequence so they can work more closely with their teacher on specific postures and can practice safely at home.
Positive Birth Movement
Positive Birth Movement meetings are peer-to-peer and connect pregnant, postpartum and otherwise interested women together to share stories, expertise and positivity about childbirth. We think a positive birth means: women are where they want to be, choices are informed by reality and not fear, mothers are empowered and enriched, and memories are warm and proud.
Dr. Sara is a passion driven woman with three strong girls. Her mission is to educate and empower women as they traverse the many stages of life and to promote the creation of space for them to make informed, intuitively-driven decisions throughout the Motherhood Transition.
